City Hall boosts gay pride with center

Chicago will have its first community center dedicated to theneeds of gays and lesbians-complete with gymnasium and a center forthe performing arts-thanks to a $2.25 million assist from citytaxpayers.

Horizons Community Services, the Midwest's largest social serviceagency for gays and lesbians, plans to build the $22 million centerat 3628-56 N. Halsted in the heart of a commercial strip streetscapedby the city to promote a gay pride theme.
