UK: Another British navy mishap

Britain's Royal Navy is investigating another mishap involving a warship, just monthsafter one of its destroyers was badly damaged off Lord Howe Island.

This time the minesweeper HMS Cattistock was left with a 60-centimetre hole in itshull after hitting a jetty as it left its home base of Portsmouth in southern England.

The Ministry of Defence is seeking to play down the accident, describing it as a relativelyminor incident.

None of the the vessel's 42 crew was hurt in the collision on November 23, but it'sout of action for repairs.

In July, the destroyer HMS Nottingham almost sank after hitting rocks at Lord HoweIsland, off Australia's east coast, resulting in a repair bill set to reach $A140 million.

Last month the British nuclear-powered submarine HMS Trafalgar ran aground off the Isle of Skye.
