FED: Public meetings on animal to human transplants
SYDNEY, Feb 3 AAP - Medical experts will hold more public meetings on whether Australiashould pursue research into animal-to-human transplants.
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) last year gave a cautiousgreen light to the use of genetically modified pigs in animal-to-human-transplants, knownas xenotransplantation.
In draft guidelines released last July, the NHMRC said research on the transplantationof cells, tissues and organs from pigs into people should proceed subject to strict controls.
